View on the Hudson

Figure descriptions
Multiple figures gather on a platform that overlooks the Hudson River from West Point. At the left side of the scene, a man and a woman stand close to one another and look out over the water. They are turned away from the viewer. Behind them and to their right, a second man and women sit on the platform next to a young girl. The man appears to draw or read to the others. Next to this group of figures, there are two dogs. Several feet away, at the right side of the scene, a Black woman sits and leans on a basket while looking toward the family. She appears to be a servant. There is an empty chair behind her. A large stone column and a low railing separate the figures from the water; vines wrap around both the railing and the column. There are multiple sail boats on the water. Mountains surround the body of water. Full page.
