Anderson, William (M)

b. 10 December 1805. d. 2 August 1866. Nationality: Scottish. VIAF.
Journalist, editor, poet, and author. Born in Edinburgh. In 1831 worked for the *Aberdeen Journal* and then *Aberdeen Advertiser*. Became acquainted with Allan Cunningham in London. Edited many newspapers including the *Western Watchman*, *Edinburgh Witness*, and the *Glasgow Daily Mail*. Author of *The Scottish Nation* (1859–1863) and *Genealogy and Surnames* (1865). Poetry volumes include *Poetical Aspirations* (1830) and *Landscape Lyrics* (1839), and edited the 1839 annual *Gift for all Seasons*. Biographical information: *ODNB*. (CC)
