Antiquary, collector, editor, poet, painter, and illustrator. Born at Hoddam, near Dumfries. Attended University of Edinburgh (without graduating), then the University of Oxford. His father knew Robert Burns, and Sharpe was friends with Walter Scott. Author of *Metrical Legends and Other Poems* (1807), *A Ballad Book* (1823), *Surgundo, or, The Valiant Christian* (1837).
