Poet and children’s writer. Pseudonym: “C. G. G.” Alternative signature: “Mrs. Godwin.” Née “Garnett.” Born in Glasgow. Godwin’s mother died in childbirth and her father died three years later. Godwin was raised by Mary Warboys, a close friend of Godwin’s mother. Married Thomas Godwin in 1824. Acquainted with Robert Southey and William Wordsworth. Author of poetry volumes *The Night Before the Bridal* (1824), *The Wanderer’s Legacy* (1829), *Poetical Works* (1854), *The Reproving Angel: A Vision* (1835).
