Poet, song writer, and businessman. Pseudonym: “C.” Born in Dunfermline. Worked as
a clerk and then became a partner in a wool firm. In 1804 moved to Edinburgh and became
a partner in a hat manufacturing business. Periodical contributor. Friend of James
Hogg, and contributed to his *Forest Minstrel* (as “C.”). Retired from business aged
