Late eighteenth-century poet and song writer, writing in English, Scots, and the Cumbrian dialect. Known as “The Muse of Cumberland.” Pseudonym: “A Lady.” Born at Cardew Hall, near Dalston, Cumberland. Composed poetry from an early age, and often wrote about politics and topography.
