Poet and surgeon. Born in Aberdeen. Attended University of Edinburgh to study medicine. President of the Royal College of Surgeons (1840-1842). Author of *The Family Hymn Book* (1825) and *Sacred Lyrics* (1843). Edited *The Amethyst, or, Christian’s Annual* with Robert Kaye Greville from 1831.
