Poet, editor, translator, and professor of modern languages. Born in Portland, Maine. Educated at Bowdoin College. Author of “Paul Revere’s Ride” from *Tales of a Wayside Inn* (1863) and the translation of Dante’s *Divine Comedy* (1865-67). Married twice, Mary Storer Potter in 1831 and Fanny Appleton in 1843.
