Born in the West Indies. Moved to Sydney, Australia, to live with her brother-in-law,
where she met her future husband. Immigrated to London in 1855 and married Huxley
on 21 July 1855. She translated German and drew diagrams for her husband’s lectures.
Author of *Mrs. Gander’s Story* (1882), *My Wife’s Relations: A Story of Pigland*
(1884), and several volumes of poetry including *Poems of Henrietta Huxley with three
of Thomas Henry Huxley* (1899) and *Later Poems* (1906). Editor of *Aphorisms and
