Law poems (collected in the immensely successful *Voices from the Crowd* [1847]).
Pseudonym: “C. M.” Worked for the *Morning Chronicle*, was editor of *Glasgow Argus*
(1844-1847), then worked for *Illustrated London News* (1848-1859), and later became
New York correspondent for *The Times* (1862-1865) during the American Civil War.
