Poet, journalist, and prominent Young Irelander. Educated at Trinity College Dublin
where he became closely involved in Irish nationalism. Contributed poetry and prose
to the newly founded Dublin *Citizen*. Became a member of the Repeal Association in
April 1841. In 1842 co-founded the Dublin *Nation* and frequently published contributions
