Symington, Andrew James (M)

b. 27 July 1825. d. 1898. Nationality: Scottish. VIAF.
Poet, translator, and antiquarian. Born in Paisley. Father, Robert Brown Symington, was a merchant. Educated at grammar school, and then joined his father’s Glasgow business. Travelled to Iceland in 1859 and afterwards published a *Pen and Pencil Sketches of Faröe and Iceland* (1862), illustrated by W. J. Linton, which included translations from Icelandic. Author of *Harebell Chimes, or Summer Memories and Musings* (1848, 1862), *Genevieve and Other Poems* (1855, privately circulated), *The Beautiful in Nature, Art, and Life* (1857).
