Poet and playwright. Cousin of poet Phineas Fletcher. Born in Rye, Sussex. Educated
at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. Collaborated with playwright Francis Beaumont
(1606-1616). Their collective work was produced in a folio entitled *Comedies and
Tragedies written by Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher, Gentlemen* (1647). Collaborated
with Shakespeare for three plays: *The History of Cardenio* (1613), *Henry VIII* (1613),
and *The Two Noble Kinsmen* (1634). Chief playwright for the King’s Company (1613).
Continued to collaborate with other playwrights and had many plays produced at court.
