Poet. Pseudonym: “J. A. E.” The speaker of Elliott’s elegy for a young child, “In Memoriam” (*Chambers’s Journal* 2 October 1880, p. 640), refers to himself as a bereaved father. The *Chambers’s Journal* ledger entry for his poem, published on 15 November 1879, gives his address as 72 The Albany, Camberwell, S. E. [London] (NLS Dep 341/371). (AC)
