Poet, translator, antiquarian, scholar, and bishop. Educated at Christ Church, Oxford. Served as one of King George III’s chaplains-in-ordinary in 1769. Appointed Dean of Carlisle in 1778 and Bishop of Dromore in 1782. Acquaintances with Edmund Burke, Thomas Gray, David Hume, and Samuel Johnson.
