Poet and educator. From Guilford, Connecticut. Née Stone. Married Dr. William Stoddard
in 1811, with whom she established a school in Troy, on the Hudson river. They moved
to Blakeley, Alabama, c. 1818, after Lavinia was diagnosed with tuberculosis; shortly
