Born in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Educated at the University of New Brunswick, University
of Edinburgh, and Harvard University. Moved to the United States in 1890. Literary
editor of the *Independent*. Founder of *The Chap-Book*. Contributed to the *Boston
Evening Transcript*. Editor-in-chief of *The World’s Best Poetry* (1904) and editor
of *The Oxford Book of American Verse* (1927). Author of several volumes of poetry
including *Low Tide on Grand Pré: A Book of Lyrics* (1893) and *Pipes of Pan* (1906).
Member of the Royal Society of Canada (1925). Recipient of the Lorne Pierce Medal
