Brown, Thomas (1778-1820) (M)

b. 9 January 1778. d. 2 April 1820. Nationality: Scottish. VIAF.
Philosopher and poet. Born in Kirkmabreck, Kirkcudbrightshire. Educated at the University of Edinburgh. Began working as a medical practitioner in 1806, but much preferred literature and philosophy. Professor of Moral Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh from 1810. A founding member of the *Edinburgh Review*. Publications include *The Bower of Spring, with Other Poems* (1817).
