Yorkshire. Educated at Trinity College, Cambridge. Married twic,: Agnes Creyke on
7 April 1799 and Dorothy Cayley on 2 July 1801. Archdeacon of Cleveland (1820-28)
and East Riding (1828-40). Author of several volumes of poetry including *The Raising
of Jaïrus’ Daughter* (1804) and compositions of translations, including *A Few Sonnets
Attempted from Petrarch in Early Life* (1817). Acquainted with William Wordsworth,
Lord Byron, Leigh Hunt, Sir Walter Scott, Sir Egerton Brydges, and Mary Russell Mitford.
Member of the Bannatyne and Roxburghe clubs and was a book collector throughout his
