Poet, editor, lawyer, and book collector. Born in Halifax, West Yorkshire. Contributed to *Blackwood’s Magazine*, *Retrospective Review*, and *Notes and Queries*. Editor of *The Diary and Correspondence of Dr John Worthington* (1847–1886). President of the Chetham Society (1847-1883) and the Athenaeum (1847-1850).
