Poet, dramatist, satirist, playwright, and lawyer. Pseudonym: “John Hamilton.” Born in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. Contributed to *The Inquirer*, *The Champion*, *Repository of Arts, Literature, Fashions*, *Gentleman’s Magazine*, *Athenaeum*, and the *Ladies’ Museum*. Became the poetry editor for *The Inquirer* in 1793. Worked on the staff of *The Champion* from 1815-1817. Married Eliza Powell Drewe on 31 August 1822.
