Greek scholar and professor, translator, and poet. Alternative signature: “R. C. Jebb.” Educated at Trinity College, Cambridge. Travelled to Egypt, Syria, France, and Germany. Elected to the Chair of Greek at the University of Glasgow in 1875, and in 1889 appointed to the Regius Chair of Greek at Cambridge. Married Caroline Lane Slemmer on 18 August 1874.
