Painter; associated with the Pre-Raphaelite movement. Born in London. Studied at the Royal Academy Schools. Contributed to *Punch*. Exhibited at the Royal Academy, the British Institution, the Irish Industrial Exhibition, and the Liverpool Academy. Married twice, Maria Rainford (his cousin) on 13 March 1857 and Mina Elizabeth Adlington on 3 December 1863. Illustrator of *Annabel* (1889), a novel by his first wife. Moved to Italy (1868-1876).
