Renaissance painter and draughtsman. Also known as “Alessandro di Moriano Filipepi.”
Born c. 1445. Worked in Florence and for a time under the patronage of the Medici
family. Painted altarpieces. portraits, and religious and mythological subjects. Decorated
the Sistine Chapel in Rome (1481). Painter of *The Birth of Venus*. Illustrated a
