Topographical illustrator, architectural painter (especially of the Gothic), and watercolourist. Married Elizabeth Gillespie on 27 December 1810. Travelled frequently in Europe. Admired by Ruskin. Exhibited at the Society of Painters in Water Colours. Elected fellow of the Society of Antiquaries in 1830. Friends with Francis Broderip and sketched with Richard Parkes Bonington.
