Poet, short story writer, translator, professor, and lawyer. Pseudonyms include “Augustus
Dunshunner,” “Robert M’Corkindale,” “T. Percy Jones,” and “W. E. A. T.” Contributed
to *Blackwood’s Magazine* from 1836 until his death and became a staff member of the
periodical in 1844. In 1845 he became a professor of rhetoric and *belles-lettres*
at the University of Edinburgh. Married Jane Emily, daughter of John Wilson, in 1849.
