in Plas-y-velin, Glamorganshire. Apprenticed at Neath Abbey Ironworks and Colliers.
Partner at Neath Abbey Engine-factory and Iron Shipbuilding works (1845-1851) and
Neath Abbey Coal Company’s Colliers (1854-1874). Exhibited coal-cutting machines at
the 1851 Great Exhibition. Patented a safety-lamp for the 1862 Exhibition. Elected
