Poet, novelist, editor, and journalist. Taught mathematics at Queen Elizabeth College,
Guernsey, from 1849-1856. Started the *Channel Islands Magazine* in 1853, but only
published three issues before folding. Started writing for the *Leamington Mercury*
in 1856, before moving to the *Plymouth Mail* in 1859, and eventually editing the
*Nottingham Guardian* in 1861. Appointed joint editor of the *London Globe* in 1866,
and regularly contributed to other journals, including *Punch* and the *British Quarterly*.
Poetry volumes include *Idyls and Rhymes* (1855) and *The Inn of Strange Meetings
