Philosopher and writer. Pseudonym: “J. F.” Born in Edinburgh. Educated at the Universities of Edinburgh and Oxford. Nephew of John Wilson (“Christopher North”). Member of William Hamilton’s circle. Married his cousin, Margaret Wilson, on 3 October 1837. Publications include *Institutes of Metaphysics* (1854), *Scottish Philosophy, the Old and the New* (1856).
