b. 17 April 1780. d. 10 November 1845. Nationality: English.
Physician, classical scholar, translator, and poet. Born in London. Educated at the University of Edinburgh and Pembroke College, Oxford. Travelled to Italy, Albania, and Greece (1815-1817). Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. Appointed Chair of the Practice of Physic at Glasgow (1827). Married twice: Margaret Campbell on 12 April 1800 and Caroline Foote on 28 October 1833.
