Poet. Mother of Rudyard Kipling. Born in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. Married John Lockwood Kipling on 18 March 1865. Lived in India from 1865-1893, returning to England only rarely. Author of the poetry volumes *Quartette* (1885) and *Hand in Hand: Verses by a Mother and a Daughter* (1901), the latter of which was a collaboration with her daughter Alice.
