Poet, editor, songwriter, children’s author, and playwright. Alternative signature: “G. Clifton Bingham.” Born in Bristol. Worked at his family bookshop from the age of 16, but sold it in 1881. Theatre critic and journalist at the *Cheltenham Examiner*. Moved to London in 1886. Editor of the *The Brighton and County Magazine* (1889-1892). Married Alice M. *Chambers’s Journal* ledger entries list his address as 82 Hampton Road, Bristol (poem published on 22 August 1885; NLS Dep 341/369), 156 Shepherd’s Bush Rd, London, W. (25 December 1886; NLS Dep 341/369), and c/o A. Vent, 6 Cork St, London W (18 May 1898; NLS Dep 341/371).
