signature: “A. S. Falconer.” Sister of Mary W. M. Falconer. Educated at Duns Public
School. The *Chambers’s Journal* ledger entry for the poem “Flawed Roses,” published
on 20 August 1898, lists the author as Miss A. S. Falconer, of Elder Bank, Duns (NLS
Dep 341/371), in Berwickshire. The Falconer sisters contributed to a range of Scottish
and English newspapers and periodicals, including *People’s Journal*, *Weekly Scotsman*,
*Pall Mall Magazine*. Agnes is also the author of the poetry volumes *Whinblossom*
(1904) and *Wishing Wood, and Other Verses* (1911). The Falconer sisters’ scrapbooks
are located in the Scottish Borders Local History Centre and Archive, Hawick. Thanks
