Poet, novelist, and women’s rights advocate. The *Chambers’s Journal* ledgers refer to her as “Miss Furley” and give her address as Ravensdowne, ? [illeg.] Rd, London, N. (for poem published on 17 May 1884; NLS Dep 341/369) and 21 Nelson St, Edinburgh (for poems published on 3 July 1886 and 5 November 1887; NLS Dep 341/369). Moved to London in 1887. Staff writer for the *Hospital*. Married James Smith in 1890. Author of *Quixote the Weaver* (1892), *An Unsought Heritage* (1896), *Child Life under Queen Victoria* (1897), and *Reminiscences of Putney, Past and Present* (1908).
