Poet, novelist, children’s writer, and journalist. Born in Halifax, Yorkshire, and
often wrote about local topics. Contributor to *Leeds Mercury*. Author of several
poetry volumes including *Anima Christi* (1884, 1887), *Poems, Chiefly Against Pessimism*
(1893), *Ballads of Revolt* (1897). *Chambers’s Journal* ledger entries list his address
