Chartist poet and stay (corset) maker. From Edinburgh. Served three years’ hard labour (1840-1843) for his part in the Bradford Chartist insurrection, when he wrote poems that later appeared in his volume *The Dungeon Harp* (1844). Biographical information: Goodridge. (AC)
