Poet and schoolteacher. Born in Aberdeen, then lived with his family at Ellon and
Glasgow. Educated at St. Enoch’s Parish School and the Established Church College.
Taught in a school at Glenapp, Ayrshire. Published poetry in local newspapers and
magazines such as the *Glasgow Weekly Herald*. Author of *Poems and Sonnets* (1896).
*Chambers’s Journal* ledger entry for Mutch’s “July,” published on 18 July 1891, lists
