Poet, classical scholar, translator, and editor. Pseudonym: “A. G.” Alternative signature: “A. D. Godley.” Born in Ashfield, County Cavan, Ireland. Educated at Balliol College, Oxford. Fellow (1883-1912) and public orator (1910-1925) at Magdalene College, Oxford. Editor of the *Classical Review* (1910-1920).
