Poet, novelist, memoirist, and nurse. Pseudonym: “Emma.” Unmarried. Born in Greater Yarmouth, Norfolk. Trained as a nurse with the Red Cross. Nursed during the Franco-Prussian War and the Serbo-Turkish War. Author of several memoirs about her time as a nurse abroad including *Our Adventures During the War of 1870* (1871) and *Service in Servia Under the Red Cross* (1877).
