Church of England clergyman, novelist, children’s writer, and poet. Pseudonym: “Cuthbert
Bede.” Born in Kidderminster, Worcestershire. Brother, Thomas Waldron Bradley, was
a novelist. Educated at University College, Durham. Married Harriet Amelia Hancocks
on 7 December 1858. Prolific periodical contributor and author of the successful Verdant
Green series of books. Reputed to have designed the first printed Christmas card and
