Poet and Church of England clergyman. Born in Bedale, Yorkshire. Educated (and later appointed fellow at) Sydney Sussex College, Cambridge, as well as the University of Oxford. Ordained a deacon in 1855. Curate of Saunderton, Buckinghamshire (1855-1858) and Putney, London (1858-1860). Moved to Worlaby House, Roehampton, Surrey in 1860.
