Worked as an apprentice miller in his youth. Married Emma Hardacre, the daughter of
a bookseller, in 1816 and began working as a bookseller. Author of *The Vale of Slaughden*
(1819), *Machin, or the Discovery of Madeira* (1821), *Cosmo, Duke of Tuscany, a Tragedy
