Poet, editor, and novelist. Alternative signature: “Mrs E. Cobbold.” Née Knipe. Married William Clarke, from Ipswich, on 16 November 1790. Clarke died three months’ later. Cobbold then married John Cobbold, also from Ipswich, on 7 August 1791. Author of *Poems on Various Subjects* (1783), *The Mince Pye* (1800, under the pseudonym “Carolina Petty Pasty”). *Six Narrative Poems* (1787, by subscription), and the posthumously published *Poems* (1825, edited with a memoir by Letitia Jermyn). Probably edited *The Chaplet* (1805). Edited labouring-class poet Ann Candler’s *Poetical Attempts* (1803). Biographical information: *Orlando*. (AC)
