Poet and courtier. Born in Somerset. Educated at the University of Oxford and the Inner Temple. Wrote poetry at the Elizabethan court with Philip Sidney and Fulke Greville. Employed in the foreign services and went on several assignments to the Netherlands, Bohemia, and Denmark. Elected MP for Somerset in 1588 and 1593. Knighted in 1596.
