Born in Wells, Somerset. Educated at Durham University. Ordained a priest in 1852.
married Jane Anne Greenaway in 1856. Founded and ran West London College at 155 Queen’s
Road, Bayswater, from 1861 to 1868. This address given in the *Chambers’s Journal*
ledger entry for Davies’ poem published on 28 October 1871 (NLS Dep 341/368). Journalist
for the *Daily Telegraph* in France during the Franco-Prussian War. Moved to South
Africa to work for the Church. Returned to London and worked as a translator. Biographical
