Poet and musician. Née Merriam. Pseudonym: “Renée de Coutans.” Born in New York City, USA. Wife of Henry Harland, literary editor of *The Yellow Book*, whom she married on 5 May 1884. Lived in both New York City and Paris before moving to London in 1889. Converted to Catholicism in 1898. After Henry died in 1905, she completed his last novel *The Royal End* (1909) herself.
