Poet and translator. Pseudonym: “H. D.” Born in Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire. Educated at Merton College, Oxford. Married Ellen St. Leger Blakeley on 28 July 1887. Published a metrical translation of *The Odes of Horace* (1894). The *Chambers’s Journal* ledger entry for his poem, published on 15 December 1877, gives is address as Merton College, Oxford (NLS Dep 341/371). Elected to the Oxford Architectural and Historical Society in 1876 (see their *Proceedings*, new series, vol. 3, 1880, p. 271).
