Frere, Mary Eliza Isabella (F)

b. 11 August 1845. d. 26 March 1911. Nationality: English.
Translator and poet. Daughter of Sir Henry Bartle Edward Frere. Born in Gloucestershire. Educated privately. Lived in Bombay, India (1863-1867) where he father was the colonial governor, and travelled with him around the Maratha territories (1865-1866). Transcribed many fairy tale stories told to her by her ayah and published as *Old Deacon Days* (1868). Moved to South Africa in 1877 for her father’s next appointment. Returned to England in 1880.
