Blind poet, novelist, and teacher. Born in Cutcombe, Somerset. Fell blind at the age of seven. Educated at home by her mother. Learned French, German, Italian, Spanish, Hebrew, Greek, and Latin. Taught a Bible class for working-class men which later expanded to include children and the elderly, as well as a separate one for their wives and daughter, in Cutcombe. Contributed to Argosy and Quiver.
