Poet. Pseudonym: “L. J. G.” Educated at Fettes College, Edinburgh, and Balliol College, Oxford. Appointed Regius Professor of Public Law at the University of Edinburgh in 1890 and served as the Chair until 1923. Dean of the Faculty of Law (1894-1910). Secretary of the University of Edinburgh (1918-1919). Became the 11th Baronet of Dalvey in 1884. Married Elizabeth Ethel Graham Lancaster on 17 July 1890. Author identified from *Chambers’s Journal* ledger entries for poems by “L. J. G.,” which list the poet as L. J. Grant, with the address as Balliol College, Oxford (for poems published on 20 October 1883 and 19 April 1884) and 17 Drummond Place, Edinburgh (for poems published on 8 January 1887 and 26 January 1889, which also refer to him as “Sir”) (NLS Dep 341/369).
